Steinway & Sons Model D

The Model D is a full range floor-standing dipole speaker which emits sound from both front and back. Unrestricted by the vibrations of conventional cabinets, it interacts with the room like a Steinway & Sons grand piano does, resulting in extremely open and life-like musicality, with no resonance and no coloration.

A rugged powerhouse of strength and performance

With more than 170 hours of precision machining behind each speaker, the Model D speaker is a rugged powerhouse of strength and performance.

The baffle is milled from solid blocks of aluminum to offer complete stability to the drive units.

The result is perfect audio reproduction and completely stabilized synchronicity between signal and sound.

Unique features

The original and first Steinway & Sons loudspeaker

The Model D is not only the company’s largest loudspeaker, but also the most iconic: It laid the foundation for Steinway Lyngdorf, combining the outstanding craftsmanship and musicality of a Steinway & Sons piano with the advanced technologies of Lyngdorf Audio.

The promise of reproducing the full sound of a grand piano or the scale of an orchestra lead to a design unparalleled in the world of loudspeakers:

A fully open dipole speaker with no sound coloration, four extra-large woofers, an ultra-light Air Motion Transformer tweeter, and an active speaker design with integrated digital amplification.

Ingenious dipole design

The Model D is a dipole design with the tweeter, two midrange drivers and four woofers mounted in an open, extremely rigid aluminum frame, exiting the sound in the room like an instrument would.

The extra-large woofers lead to a substantial and rich sound, while the bass energy acoustically cancels out sideways, minimizing the usual sound reflections coming from the room’s sidewalls.

An open dipole speaker is also free from the sound colorations audible with conventional speaker cabinets. With a frequency range from 20Hz to 22kHz and a maximum sound level of 117dB, the Model D reproduces any music in any room, genuinely.

Integrated digital amplification

Steinway Lyngdorf is a pioneer in digital amplification, launching the world’s first digital high-end audio amplifier already decades ago.

The Model D knows no power limitations: 2 integrated amplifiers with a combined power of 800 watts drive each loudspeaker.

The combination of digital amp technology inside the speaker, the digital signal provided by the Steinway & Sons stereo or surround processor, and the proprietary Steinway Link between them ensures a high-resolution, energy-efficient, and lossless path for the purest sound.
